There are some clubs in Singapore with small slot machines but that's about it. To gamble in a casino, Singaporeans head out regionally to either Genting Highlands in Malaysia, Battam in Indonesia or onto a casino ship out in International waters.
... then again, we could just gamble at home... :p
Today I was reading about the Prohibition (against alcohol) in the U.S. during the 1920s. Evidently it was against the law to sell alcohol but not to buy it, and against the law to make it but not to possess it. The attempts to illegalize "vices" always amuse me.
Gambling's not a vice. It's compusive gambling that is. I gamble occasionally. Chinese New Year for one... when stuck on a casino ship with no where else to go for another...
Indeed, as in all things in life, yin must balance yang. Too much of either gets one in trouble. Food, drink, sleep, excitement, work, play, study, religion, shopping, exercising, web-surfing, CHF-ing... too much unbalance in yin and/or yang, either "excessive indulgence nor fearful denial" leads to problems in life, in society, in health, in well-being.
Very VBeckham-like, the shades. XD

ReplyDeleteI think mahjong's one of the most popular forms of gambling amongst the older folks here.
ReplyDeleteFor whatever reason, I've never been drawn to gambling. Not that I am free of vices! ;)
ReplyDeleteNor I. lol
ReplyDeleteWe all have our little vices/indulgences.
Gambling's not a vice. It's compusive gambling that is. I gamble occasionally. Chinese New Year for one... when stuck on a casino ship with no where else to go for another...
ReplyDeleteOh yeah... I agree... that's why I originally placed "vices" in quotes. It's all about moderation, neither excessive indulgence nor fearful denial.
ReplyDeleteindeed, just as with eating, drinking and whoring, as long as it is in moderation it is fine.
