1. North Korea is glaringly dark compared to South Korea 2. Australia & New Zealand are as dark as Africa 3. Japan, Western Europe & Eastern US are like light bulbs 4. The silk route is very well lit
I think it's not so much that certain countries have brighter light, rather that they have more lights per given area! Singapore for instance, has streetlamps much more closely spaced than in KL.
Silk Route? You can see the lights dotting the silkroute, from central asia going eastward round the northern part of the Gobi desert into western China.

I suppose the lights of certain countries brighter than the others is due to position of earth? Very nice. Very luminously blue..
