That is the stuff dreams were made out of. With the price of fuel you need a lot of $$$$ to keep it up. I would love to have something like that in the Florida Keys, even for a few weeks.
Biggest financial drain would be the berthing fees actually. We are still exploring. Cheapest would be dry berth at a friend's warehouse out in the eastern tip of SG at Loyang. He charges about $100 /mth for berthing, otherwise it would be at one of the marinas around the island with fees at around $12-$14 per foot per month. The boat itself, a 2nd hand 1991 model we've seen isn't that expensive. Looking for a cabin cruiser or sports cruiser, nothing smaller than a cuddly cruiser because we do intend to use it to travel up the coast of Malaysia to maybe Penang and beyond. We went to a Boat Show last friday and saw some really drool-worthy boats but brand new boats are waaaaay too costly.
Still, it's something we want to do. We're on an ISLAND dammit! LOL.
hehe not so soon I'm afraid. Will need to explore the idea a little bit more. There's still the power boat license we need to take before we can own, and some friends of mine who already own boats I need to talk to on the viability/sustainability of owning a boat here.
Wife is excited. Its one of her dreams. We've even considered selling the house and buying a 40-50ft with the money and living off it, waking up in foreign ports. lol
Well... maybe when we retire. For now, the dream is just to try it out with a small cruiser and see how we like it first.
Will have to get you down here to come sailing with us when we get our boat.
I would love to sail the area. Pirates are a real concern from what I hear. Prices on boats in the US are reasonable because of the economy. We just are too far from the coast to use one with any frequency. There is a site on international sailing with a lot of info. I looked at it for a while. I don't see it on bookmarks and laptop crashed but will find it for you. You might already be a member..
Hehe not likely at this point. Still need to work so until I find a job that'll will let me work days on end out at sea, I'm firmly anchored to land I'm afraid.
Oh, that's what she meant. Aiyah I thought she was referring to some kind of character in a book.

Since you live on an island you have to have a boat. Hope you get it and post some pics. Be careful, avoid pirates.
