Saturday Night's Shepherd's Pie Making for Sunday's Lunch

Made Shepherd's Pie for Niangzi to bring to her Sunday lunch "girls only" office party for all the little shepherdess' to eat.

Made 2 pies.

The little pie was for them.

Since I wasn't invited, I naturally made a huge one just for myself.... but couldn't finish and had to invite parents over tonight to help eat.

  2. I left you a slice on your window sill but I think four and twenty black birds, originally slotted to be baked in the pie, swooped down instead and ate it all up. Oh and did I mention, the birds began to sing too?

  8. Ummm... ook my recipe off the top of my head;

    1. a dozen large potatos, boiled, peeled and mashed with a little milk and margarine/butter, lightly salted
    2. 300-400gms minced meat
    3. 2-3 large onions
    4. 1 can of chopped mushrooms,
    5. mixed veg
    6. 2-3 fresh tomatos
    7. tomato puree (or if u like, use ready made spaghetti sauce)
    8. shalots
    9. margarine/butter
    10. cheddar or mozzarella cheese

Pan fry shalots and chopped onions until brown in a large pot with minimal oil.
Add in minced meat, stir until meat is just cooked.
Add in mushroom "juice" from the can of mushrooms and bring to a boil
Throw items 4 thru 6 into the pot, stirring frequently
When the whole concoction is boiling, slowly pour in the tomato puree while stirring.
Add in salt, pepper and sugar to taste.
Turn to low heat and allow it to reduce and thicken.
When it starts to bubble and boil again, turn off heat and allow it to stand/thicken.

Butter the base and sides of your baking tray.
Take mashed potatoes and line a baking tray base and sides to form the pie base and sides.
Shred cheese onto top of mash potato base, covering the whole surface
Place baking tray with mash potato into oven and bake (top heat) until the cheese is melted and holds the mash base together

Remove tray from oven and ladle in the tomato/meat/veg filling.
Use remainder of mash potato to cover over the filling, using two spoons to press flat and lay the mash until the top is filled.
Shred cheese over the top liberally.

Place the pie into the oven on high heat (top and bottom) until the crust top begins to brown.

    Remove pie from oven.
Take fork and plunge into pie.
    Eat pie.
    Say "yummy!"

  9. Ah, I don't even need to eat it to say "Yummy"! The recipe is quite enough for that.
