Archery "Field-trip" to Potong Pasir indoor Archery Range

Start:     Oct 27, '07 11:00a
End:     Oct 27, '07 11:45a
Taking a group of 5 people from PHEMAS to Potong Pasir Archery indoor Range for them to get a feel of the range as well as to see if we can get them organised into formal lessons for licensing with Mr. Tang of Potong Pasir Community Club.

They need a total of 7 persons before Mr. Tang would form a class for them. Anyone else interested to join in? Lessons will not start this Saturday since this is just exploratory, but if we can get a total of 7 pax, we can then probably start lessons sometime in November.

Cost of archery lessons is $50/lesson for 4 weeks. That will qualify you for licensing which you can then register for. Timing and days yet to be arranged.

All training equipment provided by Potong Pasir CC Archery Club. You can purchase your own bow and arrows after getting your license to carry and shoot.

You are all most encouraged to join in. I need more shooting kakis or my bow will rot in this humid weather before long.

ps. you don't have to come this Saturday but still join the lessons if you like. I'll post the timing and schedules if and when I manage to form a class for the PHEMAS group. Just let me know if you are interested so that I've got the numbers for Mr. Tang.

  5. The bow isn't heavy. It's the draw strength that's critical. You can use a "light" bow like baobei does. The indoor range is only 18m in length so even very light bows are more than enough for shooting that range.

Classes are usually (if I remember my own classes), 1 hour on weekends. So total of only 4 hours and you'll be entitled to get your license to carry and shoot. After that, as long as your license if valid, you can drop in anytime the range is open to shoot. Quite fun really. Great for stress relief. Print your boss' picture and paste it on the target....

  6. Whoa, $50/lesson is a bit steep...=(

  7. was cheaper when I took them... but then again, it's just 4 lessons. The license is a yearly renewal and pitifully cheap after that. The range is open almost 365 days a year 10am to 10pm free to licensed members. That's practically a steal for the price of the license which is I think still $36/year.

  8. Well, this is gonna clash with the Wabbit's lunch...

What's the price of a bow and arrows?

  9. Wabbit will be asleep and snoring at that time.

Basic bows are just under $200 for a wooden korean made recurve. Arrows are around $10/arrow which you only need 6-12. Then the other accessories would be the optional bow stand (which you won't need), the finger guard, the arm guard (which I usually don't use).

  10. If you're going to the range after brekkie with Wabbit, then I'm keen to tag along. You'll be driving there, right? But no worries, if it's close to the Potong Pasir NEL station, I can find my way.

  11. I'm sending UrofMiddleEast and Wabbit back to AMK for their nappy, then heading over to PPCC to meet the PHEMAS guys to show them my bow and maybe shoot a bit. You're welcome to tag along. I'm not sure where niangze or moose fits in all this. Might drop niangze back home first before going to AMK. Moose I don't know... need to hear from him.

  16. The $200 for lessons? Or the $36/year license? Or the $250 for your own equipment?

Equipment you can always purchase later and just keep using the club's equipment whenever you want to shoot.
