  2. Fatima - a rather religious Catholic place, where it was said that Mary appeared before three shepherd children... one of them should still be alive...

  3. No. The last shepherd child Lucia (I think) passed away last year in Coimbra.

Da Jie, I bought you something from the Santuary in Fatima. Pass it to you next we meet.

  8. Muslims ruled Spain and Portugal for about 300 years before the "reconquista" by the Christian Kings in the 13th/14th century. Cordova was the major Muslim capital of Moorish Iberia. Everywhere you find desecrated mosques where Christians have placed bell towers onto mosque minarets and hacked out cross onto walls to convert them into Churches.

  9. Wow, cool castles! They allow entry?

  10. Avila and Obidos both still have their entire medieval town walls intact! Yes they allow entry.... just need to pay.

Loads of castles in Spain. You can buy the cheapest ones for as little as Euro3000. Only one catch. You HAVE to restore it if you buy a castle.

  14. Wow, judging by the number of places, you must have been running around a lot. Euro is expensive now, so no Europe tours for me anytime soon.

  15. well.... yes and no. We ran around a lot but got lots of free time (1/2 days to full days in some cases) just to roam on our own. The towns/cities are not that large so you get bored rather quickly especially since most cathedrals look pretty much the same after awhile. We'd already seen St. Peter's in Vatican City, St. Paul's in London and now Catedral de Santa María de la Sede in Seville which are in sequence... the largest, 2nd largest and 3rd largest cathedrals in the world. I think we're pretty maxed out where seeing cathedrals are concerned. NO MORE CATHEDRALS for us from now on.

Euro is expensive but our tour is booked and paid for in USD. lol. USD is cheap vs. SGD! hahahaha

Besides.... we found Spain and Portugal very affordable. Food is not expensive, a glass of wine is only Euro0.75 compared to bottled water Euro1.60 or so, and shopping... gawd.... niangze went crazy shopping for her clothes. They are soooooo much cheaper brand for brand, blouse for blouse, skirt for skirt compared to SG. She's wearing some of the her Spanish and Portuguese purchases in some of the photos. Travelling is also cheap. Madrid Metro is only EURO1.00 flat/trip. Lisbon Metro even better, EURO1.65 flat/return trip.

Weather was also very, very pleasant. Highs of 28 to lows of 11. Very comfy.

  16. It's a sweet-punch-like-beer-thingy-from-spain. Google it.

It's so easy to drink, it got me woozy after dinner I had to sit down for a couple of minutes by the side of the road outside the restaurant.
